On diagnosing meningitis correctly

Had a pleasant encounter today as a locum. A patient in his or her thirties knew me because I had seen him or her at the age of eight, diagnosed meningitis and arranged hospitalisation. "I don't expect you remember" he or she said. I responded, "I sure would have remembered if I had made the wrong decision."

The evil that men do lives after them,
The good is oft interred with their bones.
