Frank La Rue, United Nations special rapporteur for freedom of opinion and expression: "If there is a responsibility by leaking information it is of, exclusively of the person that made the leak and not of the media that publish it. And this is the way that transparency works and that corruption has been confronted in many cases". Source
He believes there should be limits to disclosure, which are under discussion, but he doubts that the USA has any existent legal grounds for prosecuting Julian Assenge.
He accepts that the leaker, alleged to be Bradley Manning, must face legal consequences.
(My comment>): Bradley is being kept in solitary confinement, long term, which is a cruel, unusual and inhumane punishment.
He makes an interesting point about the hysterical calls for Assenge to be assasinated by the likes of Sarah Palin. "That is incitement to hatred and violence. And that is, that falls under article 20 of ICCPR (International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights)."
