For some reason, this page, explaining why I stopped my Direct Debit for my TV license has had a consistent stream of hits. This is an update:

Dear Sir or Madam
I enclose a cheque for £142.49 as payment for my TV licence. As you will see, it is 1p short of the full amount. The reason for this is that the BBC refused to screen the DEC Appeal for Gaza. This decision was unacceptable. Irrespective of the provocation for Israel’s action by Hamas’ irrational and terrorizing rocket attacks, thousands of Gaza civilians were injured and rendered homeless by Israel’s operation.
The Geneva Convention states: Protected persons are entitled, in all circumstances, to respect for their persons, their honour, their family rights, their religious convictions and practices, and their manners and customs. They shall at all times be humanely treated, and shall be protected especially against all acts of violence or threats thereof and against insults and public curiosity.
The BBC Director’s decision went against the spirit of the convention by denying a proportion of the humanitarian aid that would have been raised as a result of the broadcast. It grieves me to have to take issue with the BBC, because I am a supporter of public service broadcasting, but I have to make a stand against political prejudice and anti-humanitarian tendencies on the part of the BBC management. My deduction of 1p is a small token of my dissent from the political decision made by your Director.

You are dealing with the Gestapo. They will likely write to you to tell you that you can't watch your telly because you have not paid your licence fee in full. They will remind you that there is a £1000 fine as they did to that chap in Edinburgh the other week.
Protests of this kind don't work. You are not dealing with reasonable human beings. The only thing they understand are threats of legal action. If you haven't got a case, you needn't waste your time.
So the first time in years they've been neutral and the lefties threaten to without money LOL

Protest/work connection? I do not expect the director of the BBC to write and apologise. But the word has gone out. A tiny grain of sand has gone into the cogs. Another tiny act of resistance.
It all depends on other people doing the same - cancelling DDs (it is a hassle for them to have to send out reminders).
Anon: that was not an act of neutrality bu Mark Thomas, it was a foolish and anti-humanitarian outrage. There was immense human need, and the BBC refused to screen a humanitarian appeal. Left-right has nothing to do with it. Compassion is beyond left-right.
By refusing to pay that penny you are just the sort of person they would like to make an example of.
As Liz says they will expect payment in full and they wouldn't hesitate to send their goons around to chase you up.

Do you by any chance believe that the BBC were right to refuse to screen the DEC appeal?
If not, and if you have a Direct Debit to pay your licence, why not at least cancel the DD, so they have to send out letters, which is a hassle for them.
I am pleased to report that the Licensing Authority have cashed my cheque and sensibly left it 1p short.
I am sure that there will be those who will say nothing was achieved. I note that the same remarks were made in the original post about this matter. Makes one wonder if some people are interested in damping down any protest about the BBC DEC decision.
