UDHR - Amnesty International and the short sighted policeman

Amnesty International presents a powerful video today, the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Sadly, Amnesty continues to restrict itself to working reactively on a case-by-case basis, and will not involve itself in changing the framework of statehood at UN level, by installing a Global Human Rights Index .

In this way they are behaving like the policeman who is so busy pulling bodies out of the river that he has not time to ask someone to go upstream and find out who is pushing them in.

To call for such an Index, which would make transparent the HR record of all governments at a glance, would cost AI nothing, and shift AI and the UN to a proactive, rather than a reactive, stance on HR.

There is a comment slot at the foot of the video (you have to register, but it only takes a minute). Let's lobby the lobbyists.
