UK freezes Gaddafi's assets

Great news! Hot on the heels of the Swiss, the Government here has set up a Treasury unit to trawl over Gaddafi's accounts held in Britain, with a view to freezing them.

I have emailed my MP congratulating Hague for taking this action, and offering some suggestions on how it can be made most effective in achieving the departure of Gaddafi from Libya.

We are going to see more of this kind of action in the coming weeks, against other regimes. Rulers should be given to understand that if they permit or order their troops or police to use lethal force on unarmed demonstrators, their tenure becomes illegitimate at that point, and action on their financial assets will commence immediately.

The UN should put in place a protocol for dealing with dictators, and promote good governance globally.

Gaddafi is going to make a lot of people happy.
When he leaves Libya on a jet plane to Zimbabwe.
Let's hope it is soon.
