I read that the US Congress has just passed the Military Commissions Act, which withdraws Habeas Corpus and permits torture of suspects in the "War on Terror". If neither Senate nor the Supreme Court resists, (and what reason do we have to believe they might?) then America takes yet another step away from the moral high ground. In fact is is about as far from the moral high ground as it is possible to be.
For me, the saddest part of this is not that Bush is going this way, because this is what we expect of him, but that our media do not report what the little primate is up to. When the Presidential elections are under way, we will be treated with exquisite detail or the caucuses (something I still cannot understand); but comment on loss of rights in law? Not a news item.
