I saw the Newsnight piece on water scarcity last night.
Either it will lead to conflict (they mentioned local fights over water, and the CIA flagged water as a potential cause of conflict many years ago), or it will lead to cooperation.
If we devoted as much effort and money to the basics of life as we do to the basics of death, we could all live happily.
Even the Sahel will remain inhabitable when we put in place a massive programme of reforestation (starting at the coast, and working inland) together with water harvesting and storage technologies.
In fact, we can either save the planetary environment or continue with our military madness.
We cannot do both.
Someone should tell Gordon Brown.
